Balaji Bhavan Restaurant (Vegetarian), Karama, Dubai 04 3368455, 04 3368540

A small cosy place tucked away in one end of old Karama. One thing that was quite good about their menu was that they had taken diet and health conscious customers into consideration.

Their wheat and ragi dosas are one example.

The other is the “Satthu Unavu” (health food) – it’s a meal package consisting of 2 Sukka Rotis (Non-0ily chapatis-Indian bread) served with a Dal (lentils curry) with less oil, salt and spices..along with a veg and fruit salad.

Tried the food there, the first time yesterday. Loved the Wheat Dosas and the Sathu Unavu meal (refer menu).

The other regular fare which my family had tried out (and I tasted them too) were quite good:

  • Channa Batura (Big Puri – deep fried Indian bread served with Channa – chickpeas curry)
  • Kothu Paratha (or porotta as pronounced in Tamil:) – Scrambled paratha – another form of Indian bread – fried with vegetables),
  • Ghee Roast Dosa
  • Fried Idlis.

Sivestar Bhavan Group, Dubai – Restaurants and Shop

We were first introduced to Sivestar when their packaged Idli and Dosa Mavu (batter) appeared on supermarket shelves….and then their restaurants opened. They also have a grocery store in Karama (refer flyer below for contact number).

We’ve been to the Sivestar restaurants a number of times and have enjoyed their delicious tamil fare.

Even met the owner, Mr. Govindraju I think, once outside the restaurant some years back. Heard he was employed in Dubai before he started the Sivestar venture…and today they are a big group. Just now googled him and came across their website. Quite a commendable vision! Wishing them more growth and success in their vision of serving Dubai with quality Tamil fare.
